ABSA 2006: Plenty of spectator points on Toyota Dealer 400.

Spectator points on the Toyota Dealer 400, the penultimate round of the Absa Off Road Championship on October 27 and 28, will be plentiful and easily accessible. Based in Lydenburg in Mpumalanga the event will be run over three legs. Legs one and three will be over the same circular route between Lydenburg and Roossenekal, and will be split by leg two which runs between the start 27 kilometres outside Lydenburg and the finish outside Sabie.

The prologue on October 27 to determine start positions for the race proper has no fewer than seven good spectator points - four of which are within walking distance of the designated service park at the Lydenburg rugby field. Spectators can park at the rugby field and enjoy all the action of a national off road race without having to leave Lydenburg. The other three prologue spectator points are all on the R577 towards Roossenekal. These are easily accessible from Lydenburg.

There are 12 spectator points on legs one and three with the first virtually at the start at Lydenburg Toyota in Voortrekker Street. Two other spectator points are off the R577 on the roads to Roossenekal and Boomplaats.

A popular point will be where the route crosses the R577 about two kilometres after the Beetgeskraal/Vermont turnoffs. There are two remaining spectator points on the R577 before the action switches to the R540 between Dullstroom and Lydenburg, with two points where the route crosses at the Elandsdrift and Rooikrans turnoffs. There are three more points on the R577 at the Spitskop, Boomplaats and Roossenekal turnoffs. A final spectator point is on the R36 on the outskirts of Lydenburg.

There are four spectator vantage points on the second leg with the first at the start about 27 kilometres from Lydenburg on the R37. The second point is also on the R37 between Sabie and Rosehaugh where the route crosses the R37 at Hendriksdal. The third point is on the R537 between Sabie and White River on the road to Witwater. The final vantage point is on the R37 at the finish on the outskirts of Sabie.

"The spectator points are all easily accessible," said Clerk of the Course Willie du Plessis from the South African Motor Club. "With some careful planning enthusiasts will be able to catch action that sees competitors tackling a variety of terrain."

The prologue on October 27 will start at 13h00 and the race proper at 08h00 on October 28. The start will be at Lydenburg Toyota in Voortrekker Street with the designated service point situated at the Lydenburg rugby field in Kantoor Street.
