Pharaons 2006: Monterde again in front of the classification.

The Spanish X-Raid BMW X5CC-Pilot Jose Luis Monterde and his copilot Jean Marie Lurquin are still leading the overall classification of the 2006 Pharaons Rally, after finishing as second in the fourth stage between Farafra and Baharija, a route of 409 kilometers - that included two specials, of 205 and 170 kilometers.
"Today was one of those days in which it was easy to commit errors, especially if you were opening the track as we do", said the Spaniard after the race in the Camp in Baharija. "In the first special we drove very quickly from the beginning until the end. In fact, we had a speed of 192 km/h in the quickest zone! Sergej Shmakov from Russia (ZIL Buggy) was following very fast and had less problems to find the right way thanks to our dust-wake, so that in the first stage he get 49 seconds to us. The second stage was slow and with a tricky navigation because of the numerous existing changes of directions and tracks. Shmakov run in front of us and win the stage with more than one minute. There are now three stages left and in this type of races always anything can happen. But if we have much sand tomorrow and Sunday we are able to maintain the overall lead until the finish in Cairo."
The Brazilian Paulo Nobre, companion of Monterde in the X-Raid-Team, finished today on third position and so fixed his also third position in the overall standing.
