Toyota opens third assembly plant in Thailand

| |
| Toyota has officially opened its third assembly plant in Thailand -Ban Pho, about 110km southeast of Bangkok, next to the company’s Gateway facility - though it has been in operational mode since January. "The Ban Pho plant represents the future direction of Toyota in Thailand, remarked TMC executive VP Akio Toyoda at the opening ceremony. "We intend to continue contributing to Thai society and to the automobile industry in Thailand."
Ban Pho, which builds the popular IMV series Hilux pickup truck for local consumption and export to 90 markets worldwide, has incorporated the latest environmental measures and Toyota sees it as model facility in Asia in terms of its ‘green’ features. Annual straight-time capacity is 100,000 units, bringing total Toyota capacity in Thailand to 550,000 together with Samrong (250,000) and Gateway (200,000).
